The Shewee was invented in 1999 by Samantha Fountain. Like many women, she was fed up with disgusting public toilets and decided to create the solution. She designed and manufactured the Shewee and became the first stand to pee device sold in the UK, allowing users to urinate whilst still wearing clothes. This would later become known as the Shewee Extreme and is still sold with the same design to this day. The Shewee captured an audience from all backgrounds- as a tool for hikers, campers, sailors and other outdoor hobbyists to stand to urinate in the wild; for festival frequenters, road trippers and globe trotters to avoid sitting on disgusting public toilets; and for those with limited mobility, recovering from surgery, pregnant women, and trans-men who use a Shewee to for medical and therapeutic reasons. Over the years of selling Shewees we listened to feedback and created a new model made from a flexible material. The Shewee Flexi was born! Made from polyolefin, its reusable, soft to the touch, and naturally repels liquid for easy cleaning. Much like the Shewee Extreme, the Flexi can be used for vast array of activities. The Flexi, however, has the advantage over the Extreme of being slightly larger and more comfortable to use. Therefore, the Flexi is best in situation where you can undress before use- such as in a toilet cubicle. For situations where youre wearing clothing, such as in the outdoors, we would recommend the Extreme as the hard plastic form retains its shape. With the Flexi or the Extreme, we strongly recommend practicing in the shower first to ensure the best first proper use experience. This is for two main reasons: Technique and Confidence. The technique of getting your Shewee placement correct is crucial. It is important to leave a small gap at the front to allow air flow, which will cause your Shewee to drain urine much more rapidly due to the Venturi effect. Practicing in the shower can help build your confidence as the sensation of standing to urinate may be strange at first, and it is important to steady your flow of urine to mitigate the chance of the Shewee overflowing. The Shewee Flexi naturally repels water so when youve used it, shake it off and give it a rinse with water. When next suitable, you can properly wash your Shewee by using a mild soap and warm water. If your Flexi gets misshapen, you can soak it in hot water, and it will revert to its natural shape.
